HOW BAKERSFIELD LIPOSUCTION IS DONE
Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis at a Bakersfield hospital or state-of-the-art surgical unit while you are asleep under general anesthesia. If you are having liposuction in a very small area, such as under the chin, it can be done in Dr. Dev’s Bakersfield plastic surgery office with local anesthesia and some IV or oral sedation.
Once anesthesia is induced, tiny incisions are made, through which saline (salt water) is instilled. Using a small cannula, the excess fat is suctioned, after which the incisions are closed with tiny incisions or steri-strips and a bandage is applied.
The liposuction procedure generally takes 1 ½ to 3 hours to perform, depending on the number of areas treated and whether or not it is part of another procedure. Since it is an outpatient procedure, you will need a friend or family member to drive you home, as you will still be recovering from anesthesia.
RECOVERY FROM BAKERSFIELD LIPOSUCTION
Generally, post-operative instructions call for rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and recovery time. Although some patients report minor pain associated with liposuction, this discomfort can be treated effectively with oral medication; some find that ice packs on the treated areas are also effective.
