HOW BAKERSFIELD BREAST AUGMENTATION IS DONE
Breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis at a Bakersfield hospital or state-of-the-art surgical unit while the patient is asleep under a general anesthesia. Once anesthesia is induced, there are several possible locations for the small incision that will be used for inserting the breast implant. The incision for your particular procedure will be discussed at your consultation with Dr. Dev at his Bakersfield plastic surgery office. The most popular incision is made in the lower portion of the breast, in the inframammary fold, where the breast meets the chest wall. Another technique, though less frequently used, involves an incision in the armpit. A third technique uses an incision around the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple). A fourth technique uses an incision in the belly button, thus reducing the chance of scarring in the breast area; however, this cannot be performed with silicone gel implants, as they are too large to be inserted this way. During the procedure, the breast tissue is raised to create an open pocket under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. Implants contain either a saline solution (similar to saltwater) or silicone gel. In some circumstances, particularly those in which there is breast asymmetry (uneven breast size), an inflatable implant may be used to allow Dr. Dev to adjust the level of inflation to attain breast symmetry and balance. Surgery typically lasts from 1 to 3 hours. You will need a friend or family member to drive you home after your breast augmentation procedure, as you will still be recovering from anesthesia.
RECOVERY FROM BAKERSFIELD BREAST AUGMENTATION
Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and recovery time. Sometimes bandages are applied right after surgery to aid the healing process and to minimize movement of your breasts. Once the bandages are removed, a specialized surgical bra will need to be worn for several weeks. Although some patients report minor pain associated with breast augmentation, this discomfort can be treated effectively with oral medication; some women find that ice packs are also effective.
